Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant stiched a brilliant partnership of 130 runs off 78 balls, helping India win the last T-20 against West Indies on Sunday. Perhaps, the way Shikhar and Pant were leading the chase at one point, nobody thought the match could run till the last ball of the game, but it eventually did only to give India victory in the end. Certainly, we just can’t get over from this format of the game. Isn’t it?
India required five runs from the last over to win the match and Fabien Allen was brought back into the attack. Shikhar anchored the chase with his 92, however, the left-handed batsman felt the pressure for the first time in the final over, eventually skying the ball straight to mid-on fielder on the penultimate delivery of the match, with India needed 1 run of 1 ball. The left-handed spinner restricted the win till the last ball of the over and had almost helped West Indies tie the match had he not fumbled the ball that came into him and ran Pandey out of the last ball of the innings. Eventually, Pandey breath sigh of relief as India won the match in the last-ball thriller.
Earlier, Chasing a mammoth total of 182 runs, India were off to a worst –possible start with Rohit and Rahul falling cheaply, leaving India tottering at 45 for 2 after 6 overs. However, a defiant effort from Shikhar and Pant helped India chase the total on Sunday. The duo hit powerful strokes all around the ground, taking on every bowler that came in their way. While Shikhar favored risk-free shots, manoeuvering the ball in the gaps, Pant played in his own way, hammering the ball ruthlessly. The left-handed batsman was in no mood to show mercy, taking every bowler to the cleaners.
For the first time in the three-match series, West Indies looked good with the bat, helping their bowler give them enough runs to defend. Spearheaded by Nicholas Pooran (53), West Indies put on a defendable total (181-3) on the board.
