Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday have retained 23 out of their 26 members from their winning squad of IPL season 12 ahead of the IPL season 13 next year. Key players such as skipper MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Faf du Plessis etc. have been retained in the squad, while Dhoni led Franchise have released England’s fast bowler Mark Wood and two Indian uncapped players namely Kanishk Seth and Kshitiz Sharma from their squad. Kedar Jadhav who had missed last season due to injury has also been retained in the side.
However, players from South Africa and England such as DuPlessis, Ngidi, Imran Khan, David Willey are unsure of playing the whole season as they would be departing amidst the season in order to prepare for the World Cup next year.
"Cricket South Africa hasn't informed about whether they want their players back in order to prepare their squad for the World Cup. Neither did the England board. But even if they call back their players, we won't face much of a trouble," a source close to CSK told TOI.
Chennai SuperKings will be going ahead at the IPL season 13 auction next month with 8.5 crores in their purse. Perhaps, looking at the team combination, the three-time winning team isn’t too worried about bagging any more impact players.
Seemingly, with experienced players such as Shane Watson, Suresh Rina, Bravo, Dhoni in the squad, CSK is certainly banking more on experience than anything else.
"We have really valued experience. MS (Dhoni) and I are on the same wavelength that experience counts. We have a multi-skilled team in our ranks… That, to us, is very important as it gives us options throughout the course of the season. Around the world, the experienced players have always been consistent," coach Stephen Fleming said in a press release.
