India opening pair woes don't seem to end any sooner as India will be heading to play the third test in Melbourne on 26 December. The opening pair of KL Rahul and Murli Vijay hasn’t shown any promise in the series and with Prithvi Shaw getting injured, Virat Kohli is facing a hard time choosing the ideal opening pair for the boxing day test.
In the two tests played so far Indian batsman, KL Rahul has managed to score 48 runs, while Murli Vijay has amassed just 49 runs in the four innings. For India to win the next two tests, India need to figure out the ideal opening combination going ahead at the boxing day test. Perhaps, it is time when KL Rahul should make way for Mayank Agarwal, someone who is consistently scoring the bulk of runs in the first-class cricket.
Meanwhile, Indian politician Shashi Tharoor has come up with his suggestion as to who according to him should be the ideal pair to open the innings in Melbourne. Tharoor, in a tweet, suggested that perhaps, Ravi Ashwin should open the innings with Mayank Aggarwal, reasoning that it would make a slot left for middle-order batsman or an all-rounder to fill in the line-up.
“The departure of @PrithviShaw is a bigger setback than the Test loss to Australia. Perhaps we should ask @ashwinravi99 to open with Mayank Agarwal now? He has an organized defense & a calm head on his shoulders. And that would free up a slot for a middle-order bat or all-rounder,” Tharoor said on Twitter.
Not a bad one though, even as it would be interesting to see who will end up making the cut in the third test. India will face Australia in the third test in Melbourne on December 26.
