Team Australia have made some Major changes ahead for the ODI series against India, beginning from January 12, 2019. In the 14-member squad announced by Cricket Australia on Friday, players such as Travis Head, Darcy Short, and Chris Lynn failed to secure a place, while opening batsman Usman Khawaja, Peter Handscomb, and Nathon Lyon have been brought into the side.
"Nathan Lyon comes back into the squad and will join
Adam Zampa as our spin options. Nathan is the best
off-spin bowler in the world and we've noted how
successful teams around the world have been using
a two-pronged spin attack in the right conditions in
white ball cricket, something we are very mindful of
heading to the World Cup." Chief selector Trevor Hohns
"Travis Head, Darcy Short and Chris Lynn have been unlucky
to miss out. All three have had opportunities to cement their
spots, but unfortunately, they have not been as productive
as we would have liked in recent times when playing ODI
cricket for Australia." He added
Australia’s bowler Peter Siddle has been recalled into the side after a gap of 9 years owing to his brilliant spells in the Big Bash. He along with Billy Stanlake, Jason Behrendorff, Jhye Richardson will fill the bowling spots. Aussie formidable Pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins have been given rest post a hectic Test series against India in order to freshen them up for the Test series against Sri Lanka.
"After a hefty workload in the Indian series to date, it has
been decided not to select Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and
Josh Hazlewood in this squad to allow them to freshen up
for the Test series against Sri Lanka,".
Australia’s batting line-up will be spearheaded by Aaron Finch who will be accompanied by Shaun Marsh, Peter Handscomb, Mitchell Marsh, Alex Carey, Glenn Maxwell.
