After a series of lackluster performances in the unofficial one-day matches, top order batsman KL Rahul has been included in the India A four-day squad on Wednesday. He was picked for the first of the two matches against England Lions, starting on February 7 in Thiruvananthapuram.
Middle order batsman Ankit Bawne, who plays for Maharashtra in domestic cricket, was named skipper of the 14-man squad.
Rahul, who was recently cleared to play cricket by the BCCI after a suspension, is likely to open the innings for the India A side. He and all-rounder Hardik Pandya were suspended for their alleged sexist comments on a television show “Koffee with Karan.”
The 26-year-old could manage to score 42 runs off 77 balls as the hosts beat Lions by 6 wickets in the 4th unofficial ODI on Tuesday.
Meanwhile Pandya is enjoying an incredible comeback with a clinical two-wicket haul in India's series 3-0 victory against New Zealand, Rahul did his part with India A.
Rahul was part of the Indian squad for the Test series in Australia, but was dropped after the first two matches following scores of 2, 44, 2 and 0.
India A side has taken a 4-0 lead in the five-match unofficial one-dayers with one more match to play.
