Hong Kong Open 2018: PV Sindhu And Sameer Verma Enter Round Two

Indian shuttler PV Sindhu started her campaign in style by defeating Nitchaon Jindapol of Thailand 21-15, 13-21, 21-17 in the opening round of the women’s single in the Hong Kong Open badminton tournament on Wednesday. It was the fourth win of the 23-year-old Indian star against the Thai.

The third seeded Sindhu’s last victory against Tai was at the Rio Olympics, gaining a silver medal in the world’s biggest sports event. She will take on Sung Ji Hyun of Korea in the next round.

In the men’s single, Sameer Verma beat another Thai player Suppanyu Avihingsanon 21-17, 21-14. He will clash with Olympic champion Chen Long of China. In another match, Kadambi Srikanth defeated Wong Wing Ki Vincent of Hong Kong 21-11, 21-15.

However, all in not well for the Indian side as Saina Nehwal lost to world No 2 Akane Yamaguchi of Japan 21-10, 10-21, 19-21 in her opening match. She won the first game 21-10, but the Japanese came back with a strong response in the second game and went to win the two straight games.

Meanwhile, B Sai Praneeth was outclassed by Khosit Phetpradab of Thailand and Parupalli Kashyap lost to Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia.
