In a horrifying and shocking motorsports incident, Formula 3 racer Sophia Floersch miraculously survived after her car crashed during the during the F3 World Cup final in Macau. The 17-year-old German driver has fractured her spine after her car catapulted off the track at 172mph and smashed into a media hoarding on Sunday.
In a video footage shared on social media, Floersch can be seen flinging through the air when she lost control after a collision with Jehan Daruvala who was slowing for displayed yellow flags at the Lisboa bend. Her Van Amersfoort Racing car flew over her competitors before slamming into the track fence and landed into a temporary media platform.
Along with Floersch, four other persons, including another driver, a marshal and two photographers were injured in the incident. According to the reports, Japanese driver Sho Tsuboi suffered back pain, while a marshal, Chan Cha sustained a fractured jaw. Photographer Chan Weng Wang was rushed to hospital liver laceration, while another photographer Minami Hiroyuki has a concussion.
Floersch, the rising star of motorsports took to Twitter to say she was alive and would undergo a surgery. She thanked the FIA officials and her crew who took care of her after the incident.
