Once again Portugal's most capped player Christiano Ronaldo has been left out in the recently announced Portugal's squad for this month's Nation League games against Italy and Poland. The spirited Portugal team will continue their Nation's League campaign without Ronaldo, starting in the month of November.
According to the club manager Santos, the focus for the 33-year old footballer currently is to win the Ballon d'Or award and moreover, even he wants his most experienced Portugal footballer to claim the prestigious trophy.
"The only thing I will say about Ronaldo is that I hope he wins the Ballon d'Or award," said Santos, referring to France Football magazine's annual player of the year award.
"He deserves it and it would be an injustice if he didn't win."
Portugal will face Italy on November 17, while the former will play against Poland three days later.
Asked if Ronaldo will play in the matches in March, Santos opined that he or anyone for that matter are unaware of what future holds for whom.
"Only the future will tell us what is going to happen. I don't know what will happen between now and March. There will be a natural evolution... I don't have the gift of being able to guess the future."
Portugal currently stands at number one position in group three with two wins out of two. A draw with Italy shall see them through to the semi-finals.
