Borussia Dortmund suffered their first Bundesliga season defeat against relegation team Fortuna Düsseldorf on Tuesday. Newly-promoted Düsseldorf ended Dortmund’s unbeaten run with a 2-1 win at Merkur Spiel-Arena.

Dodi Lukebakio and Jean Zimmer scored in either half to earn all the three points against the title favorites Dortmund.

Lukebakio paced up between two defenders in black-yellow jersey and sent a low shot into the net with his left foot in the 22nd minute, beating Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Bürki. While the visitors were trying to break their opponents’ defense line, Düsseldorf set a perfect example of counter attack when Zimmer struck the most beautiful goal of the season in the 56th minute to establish a 2-0 lead.

Substitute Paco Alcacer scored a late consolation for Dortmund just nine minute before the final whistle but they failed to recover from early slump.

With this win, Düsseldorf climbed up to the 15th place just below Schalke 04 because of goal difference, while Dortmund remained on top with 39 points.

Meanwhile, second-placed Borussia Moenchengladbach moved to 33 points by beating Nuremberg 2-0, closed the gap between Dortmund by six points.

Dortmund will take on Mönchengladbach in Westfalenstadion on Friday, while Düsseldorf will play bottom team Hannover on Saturday.
