Ribery’s Late Winner For Bayern Against Leipzig Cuts Gap To Dortmund To Six Points

Veteran Franck Ribery struck an 83rd-minute goal as Bayern Munich beat RB Leipzig 1-0 on Wednesday to narrow the gap to Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund to six points.

Ribery got off the bench in the 28th minute and found the net with his left foot just seven minutes to the final whistle after it was deemed the match would end a goalless draw. The 35-year-old French winger didn’t miss his shot after from Dayot Upamecano’s failed clearance after Renato Sanches’s attempt was rebounded from Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi.

The thrilling match at Allianz Arena also witnessed two red cards in injury time for both teams. Substitute Stefan Ilsanker received a straight red card after he slid in recklessly on Thiago Alcantara. He was followed by his counterpart Sanches, who was shown a second yellow card when he pushed the Austrian midfielder to the ground.

Both teams remained in the same position in the Bundesliga standings, with Bayern widening gap between Leipzig to five points. 

In another match, struggling Hannover 96 secured a point after a 1-1 draw against Freiburg and climbed up on the 19th position. 

Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen jumped to the 10th position after they shocked the out-of-form Schalke 2-1 on the home ground.
