Aaron Ramsey and Alexandre Lacazette scored in either of the halftime to earn Arsenal a clean sheet 2-0 victory over Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium.
Unai Emery’s side led the game 1-0 when Ramsey sent a low volley into the left corner of the net in the 30th minute. The goal revived their hope for the league title. They trailed the Spurs by 10 points at the start of February.
For now, the supporters can shun off the issue with Ramsey’s transfer to Juventus. The 28-year-old Welshman had agreed a five-year, free-transfer summer move to Juventus worth around £36 million.
Arsenal got the second goal in the 83rd minute through Alexandre Lacazette. The Frenchman flicked over Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka off Aubameyang's shoulder.
The man-of-the-match performance came from Mesut Ozil, who had only started three league games since Boxing Day. Emery heaped praise on the German midfielder and said he was “playing like we want”.
With the win, the Gunners leaped two points clear of Manchester United and north London rivals Tottenham into the third place in the Premier League table.
It was a 10th home league victory in a row for Arsenal. Emery conceded that his side faced a mammoth task with only seven more games to be played until the end of the season.
