Manchester United’s dream of getting to the top four is slowly fading away as they failed to build a concrete defense to gain the whole three points from Arsenal tie on Wednesday night. The Red Devils came from behind twice after conceding two decisive goals to the north Londoners in a crucial meet at Old Trafford.

Expensive imports Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku were not in starter XI when Jose Morinho’s side were struggling to get through with a poor defensive effort.

Goalkeeper David de Gea did a Jordan Pickford when he made a blunder, failing to cope with Shkodran Mustafi’s header in the 26th minute. De Gea gave a feeble push and the ball fell behind him. Ander Herrera quickly kicked it out of the box, but it was too late as the ball had already crossed the line.

Days ago, Liverpool snatched three points from Everton after Pickford made an uncharacteristic error in the 96th minute.

Anthony Martial, who turned 23, received his birthday present from the cheering home crowd when he netted an equalizer in the 30th minute. The Frenchman wasted no time to strike a low pass from Ander Herrera after Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno cleared a Marcos Rojo’s free-kick.

The luck of the night rode with the Gunners as they were gifted with United’s own goal from Marcos Rojo’s in the 68th minute, with which the visitors led the game 2-1. The Argentine defender slid into the net as he tried to hack away from substitute Alexandre Lacazette.

The game suddenly changed in the next few seconds when Jesse Lingard scored his eighth goal of the season to level the score 2-2. The 25-year-old England midfielder gave one of his best as he overcame Arsenal Sead Kolasinac.

After the fateful night where all the four goals were resulted from errors, United remained eighth in the table and winless in four Premier League games. Meanwhile, frustrated Unai Emery’s side are pushed down at No 5 behind Chelsea.
